I didn't get to drink my shake because I forgot since I was working on the snow.
From the chinese place I had an order of beef in black bean sauce (530 cal.), part of an order of rice (300 cal.), a bite of an eggroll (75 cal. since I don't know), and a bite of a crag rangoon (75 cal. since I don't know).
That's a total count of 980 calories for the day.

Saturday - December 15, 2007
For breakfast I had two eggs (140 cal.) and a piece of dry diet toast (35 cal.).
For supper tonight I had some pork sirloin (346 cal.), turnip greens (60 cal.), mashed potatoes (140 cal.), corn (120 cal.), and green beans (40 cal.). Yummy!
I still have to eat my soy chips, some "hot cocoa," and also have a couple bags of popcorn (50 cal.) to snack on for later.
With all this stuff I have eaten and the stuff I have to eat I'm only at 991 calories.
Awesome, huh?!?
****UPDATE****
I forgot to eat my 100 cal. chips today.

Tuesday - December 11, 2007
I was starving when I woke up this morning and since I knew I was in for some taco soup, Lord willing, tonight I knew I had to eat light so I can enjoy the soup later. So this is what I did.
I took some white onion and some carrot and diced them up very tiny. To this I added some minced garlic and freshly ground salt and pepper. I put this in a skillet with a teaspoon of olive oil and sautéed it until it was tender. Then I took the leftover steak I had last night with the little bit of mushrooms it had and sliced it up very thin and diced it and added it to the veggie mixture. I cooked this down until everything was just tender and succulent. I added it up and this entire mixture whole would be around 300 calories, so I divided it into about 10 pieces of 30 calories to make my "toppings." I got an egg (70 cal.) and fried it with salt and pepper in the leftover oil from my "toppings." Then I took a small tortilla (80 cal.) and browned it in the skillet. I plated the tortilla with egg on top and covered it with some "toppings" and a small teaspoon of salsa. Total this part of the day was only 215 calories. That leaves me able to eat my taco soup like I cannot wait to do!
I'll update this post later with my total daily calorie intake.
***UPDATE***
I had taco soup (375 cal.) and a tortilla (80 cal.).
This makes my total for the day 645 calories.

I got to hear my baby's heartbeat for the very first time today. It was awesome! On the way over I ate some Orville popcorn (50 cal.) so I wouldn't be too weak since I hadn't eaten anything all day. I only drank one shake today too, so I'm a little low on that side of things.
Not only was the baby's heartbeat awesome but I went someplace I never thought I'd go eat tonight.
Oh how wonderful it was. I'm pretty proud of what I ate too. I had a 10 oz. skirt steak of which I only ate half, so that's a 5 oz. skirt steak (312 cal.), a bit of mushrooms in a gravy (30 cal.), some corn succotash (80 cal.), two rings of their "onion rings" (80 cal.), and broccoli (50 cal.). My total calories for today were 602 calories. Not that bad for going into a restaurant famous for large portions and DELICIOUS cheesecakes!
Yummy!
Now Sarah on the other hand was bad. ;) She ate a delicious meal that she loves from there called Crusted Chicken Romano and a slice of pumpkin cheese cake.
Can you believe she'd eat this? Oh God, it looked so good. :)

Today was profitable but very hard.
It was my work Christmas party and they catered a delicious meal! It looked and smelled so very, very good.
I did eat very small amounts of the food I put on the plate, but I don’t know even how close I would be to start guessing at the calories, so I’m just going to put down 550 calories for today. I might have gone over and I might have been under. Either way doesn’t matter right now. I’m just happy I cut the small piece of chicken parmesan in half and didn’t eat all the food I put on the plate. I did eat some beef tips, noodles, veggies, salad, and shrimp.
I didn't eat my bar or drink one of my shakes today.
Friday - December 7, 2007
I had a bag of Orville’s popcorn (30 cal.) for lunch and then went to Bandana’s for supper. I had the turkey platter consisting of turkey breast (240 cal.) with a plain baked potato (130 cal.) and green beans (35 cal.) for a total of 435 calories for the day.

Thursday - December 6, 2007
Due to my job being located at a company that does snow removal, this is an exciting time. The problem with today is that the company provides tons of free food for it's employees during the snow events. We have tons of fun and tons of food.
I am going to try and be strong but I don't know so keep me in your prayers. :)
So far I've had a Subway Club sandwhich (388 cal.) and Subway apples (35 cal.).
I've convienced them to get me some healthy food instead of making me eat all the junk food, so hopefully I'll do all right tonight.
I'm working on a bag of carrots and celery (60 cal. total) and have a bowl of low fat chicken noodle soup (100 cal.) and a smoked turkey sandwich (230 cal.) from St. Louis Bread heading my way.
I also have my low calorie Orville popcorn (30 cal.) to help get me through the night plus all my shakes and the bar left from today.
I even got them to buy me a caffenine free Diet Coke 12-pack so I'd have something to drink. Cool, huh? I'll let you know what the damage is later. I am sure I will go over. Let's just hope not too much.
I have eaten 843 calories thus far and I'm going to stop and just eat on my bar and my shakes now. It was really hard resisting the temptation tonight, but I succeeded even though I went 293 calories over.

Tuesday - December 4, 2007
I had the potato-crusted flounder for 254 calories, a small baked potato for 130 calories, and some mixed veggies for 50 calories. That's 434 so far for the day. 116 more calories to go.
Monday, December 3, 2007
Monday - December 3, 2007
That leaves me with 90 to go.
Yippee! Maybe I'll eat some popcorn tonight to do the rest of my calories.

Today I ate a bowl of garden vegetable soup (90 cal.) and a piece of whole grain bread (130 cal.) from St. Louis Bread Company for lunch. Later, I meet Sarah at Noodles & Company and had a small portion of the house marinara on penne noodles (340 cal.).
Total calories for today were 560 calories.
Due to my having the cold, I forgot to eat my bar and one of my shakes. So, I need to modify my weekly report for this week.
Rebecca's Homemade Taco Soup
Here’s another one for you.
Rebecca’s Homemade Taco Soup
Ingredients:
1 lb. of Ground Turkey (85/15)
2 cans (14.5 oz) of black beans
2 cans (11 oz.) of white shoepeg corn
1 packet of McCormick’s taco seasoning
1 packet of Hidden Valley ranch seasoning (dry)
2 cans of tomato sauce (16 ounces total)
16 ounces of water
Salt
Black pepper
Garlic powder
I changed Rebecca’s recipe and use ground turkey. She uses ground beef and it tastes great.
Directions: Brown ground turkey in non-stick skillet and season with salt and black pepper. While turkey is browning open all the canned food and add to a pot and put on low heat. Drain the little amount of fat in the skillet and pour turkey into the pot with the canned food items. Add water and bring to a boil. Stir in taco seasoning and ranch seasoning and allow to simmer for at least 30 minutes before eating. The longer it simmers the better it will taste.
This pot will make 8 servings. Serving size is 1 cup (Calories: 300 / Carbs: 30).
Garnish with cheese and crackers for extra flavor (extra calories too). Or use less water and fill a 6” flour tortilla with small amount and garnish with cheese, sour cream, and salsa for a special treat (of course the calories too).
Let me know if this doesn’t make any sense.
Adam's Award Winning Turkey Chili
Here’s a recipe for your cookbook.
Adam’s Award Winning Turkey Chili
Ingredients:
1 lb. of Ground Turkey (85/15)
1 small yellow onion
2 cans of Mexican chili beans
1 packet of McCormick’s chili seasoning
4 cans of tomato sauce (32 ounces total)
16 ounces of water
Salt
Black pepper
Garlic powder
Directions: Brown ground turkey in non-stick skillet and season with salt and black pepper. While turkey is browning, dice the onion and open all the canned food. Drain the little amount of fat in the skillet. Add diced onions to ground turkey and season with garlic powder. Cook until onions are tender. While cooking onions begin to pour canned food into a pot and put on low heat. When onions are done, pour the onion and turkey into the pot with the canned food items. Add water and bring to a boil. Stir in chili seasoning and allow chili to simmer for at least 30 minutes before eating. The longer it simmers the better it will taste.
This pot will make 8 servings. Serving size is 1 cup (Calories: 250 / Carbs: 20).
Garnish with cheese and crackers for extra flavor (extra calories too).
Let me know if this doesn’t make any sense.

Last night I had a bag of Orville's popcorn (30 cal.) and a piece of toast (35 cal.) and two eggs (140 cal.).
Total for today was 620 calories.
I've got to get my calories back down. I'm going over a little bit too much.
Monday - November 26, 2007
Sunday - November 25, 2007
Saturday - November 24, 2007
Friday - November 23, 2007
It was a lot harder today because I was kind of down that I couldn't eat any of my favorite foods like pumpkin and pecan pie yesterday. So, I made a few concessions but did not go too bad out of control. I did go over my limit today, but feel like I did it in a responsible way.
My first meal for the day was similar to yesterday's but I added a few things too it. I had turkey (75 cal.), green beans (60 cal.), another bite of cornbread stuffing, a.k.a. dressing (25 cal.), part of a baked potato with a tiny bit of butter (95 cal.), more raw veggies (50 cal.), some delicious fried apples made with granny smiths, apple butter, and a tad of sugar (30 cal.), a small bite of cheesy hashbrown casserole (35 cal.), a small bite of sweet potato casserole (45 cal.), the smallest bite anyone can have of buttermilk pie (40 cal.), and a small bite of Apple and Snicker salad (35 cal.).
This Thanksgiving meal was the grand total of 490 calories.
Later that evening we were driving back to St. Louis because family had to catch an airplane early Saturday morning. And, on the way back home to St. Louis we had to make one last pit-stop because my sister was dying for some Lambert's - Home of the throwed rolls!
Check out Lamberts @ http://www.throwedrolls.com/
For those of you that have never been to Lambert's, I highly recommend it. However, make sure you've not eaten before you go because you will deplete your entire calorie quota for the day. Haha! :)
Well, while at Lambert's I was very proud of myself. I ordered the charbroiled chicken with a side of turnip greens and a baked potato. I only ate half my baked potato (75 cal.), half of my turnip greens (10 cal.), only about half of one of the two huge chicken breasts they brought me (95 cal.), I had 3 pieces of fried okra (75 cal.), and a tiny nibble of a roll (25 cal.). This meal cost me 280 calories total.
So, overall for the day I ate the not so bad total of 770 calories. I'm pretty proud of myself considering what I had to work with today.

Monday - November 19, 2007
Today I had...
It was really good. I had Kung Pao Chicken (200 cal.), Mushroom Chicken (130 cal.), and Mixed Veggies (50 cal.) and a Diet Pepsi for a total of 380 calories for my meal.
That's a pretty good lunch if I do say so myself. I'm going to try and lose at least another 10 pounds over the next 4 weeks!
For the rest of my calories I had another bag of the Buttery Garlic by Orville Redenbacher (30 cal.) and a Fiber One chewy bar (140 cal.) The Fiber One bar I like the best is Oats & Chocolate.
Sunday - November 18, 2007
I had a wonderful meal from one of my favorite places…
I had the turkey plate with green beans and a plain baked potato and a small amount of barbeque sauce (460 cal.).
Imagine this picture with a baked potato instead of corn and you'll have what I ate, minus the bread of course. I gave that to Sarah.
Later I had a snack which consisted of a sliver of Sarah's pizza (100 cal.) and some Orville Redenbacher's new Buttery Garlic Natural Popcorn (30 cal.).
This stuff is delicious and it is only 30 calories for a mini-bag. I love this stuff! Popcorn has saved my life on this diet.

Saturday - November 17, 2007
For breakfast I had one of my most delicious snacks yet-a scrambled egg on a piece of toast (100 cal.). I use the healthy bread so my calories are brought down tremendously. It was just a plain egg with a little pepper and salt on a piece of toast. Ask Sarah about the bread. It is pretty good. They have sourdough, white, and wheat among other flavors.
For dinner I made a small pot of our family's favorite-Chili!
This was pretty awesome. I made it with lean ground beef because the grocery store didn't have any ground turkey. But, I figured it out that for every half cup of chili it was right at 200 calories. So, I ate a cup and a half (600 cal.). Had I used ground turkey it would have brought the calories per serving size down to approximately 160 calories. So the lesson learned is go to a different store and buy the turkey. It'll save you 40 calories and enable you to eat a little bit more if your tummy needs it.
That put me at 700 calories for the day, but it doesn't hurt to go a little bit over every once in a while.
Saturday, November 17, 2007
Friday - November 16, 2007
Lean Cuisine pizzas (290 cal./each). This brings me a little over but
nothing to worry about.
Also, I forgot to drink all my shakes and eat my bar. Oops! It has
been so busy here lately with school and all that I accidentially
forget. It'll get better. I've only done this two or three times over
the entire 8 weeks.
Look forward to seeing my plans for Thanksgiving 2007!

I had to make my own lunch today. It was delicious!
I sautéed two chicken breasts in soy sauce and minced garlic (350 cal.) and made a can of green beans (75 cal.). With the chicken, I added some mushrooms (40 cal.) and some Asian vegetables (50 cal.). That’s a total of 515 calories. Yum!
Not that bad if I do say so myself. I’d eat it again.
I still have my 4 shakes and a bar to go and I’m already stuffed.

In the beginning . . .
I knew my life had gotten out of hand when I went on a family vacation and was too embarrassed and ashamed to have fun with the rest of the family at an amusement park. I had gotten to the point that I would rather stand than try to sit down on a plastic lawn chair. I had problems breathing and would be quickly out of breath if I tried to climb a flight of stairs. My weight was ruining my life. It was depressing. Things had to change.
I went to visit my doctor, Dr. Soudah, in Summer 2007 and expressed my heart to him. I told him of how I wanted to live to see my grandchildren and wanted to be able to perform basic tasks without feeling embarrassed. He was empathetic and vowed to help me if I were up to the task. He told me he was starting a weight loss clinic and wanted me to come back in September when it opened to go over a few things with me. In the mean time, he asked me to begin counting how many calories I ate on a daily basis.
Dr. Soudah’s philosophy is very simple and consists of three parts:
- Obesity is a chronic disease, which requires a lifelong treatment.
- Obesity is a disease process with a physiological cause, like diabetes or hypertension. It is not a result of weakness or lack of willpower on the part of the patient.
- Obese individuals have a right to healthcare that is safe and fits their lifestyle. It should recognize and respect their individual, physical, social, spiritual, psychological, and economic needs.
This is premise upon which Dr. Soudah said he’d help me. When Sarah and I came in for the first visit, Dr. Soudah said that I had three choices to rid myself of the weight that was haunting me. First, I could have surgery and remove part of my stomach. I was not too fond of this because I know of people who go in for these types of surgeries and never wake up. This did not sound like the answer I wanted to hear. Second, I could take drugs to kill my appetite. This was not something I wanted to do either. I had tried taking diet pills but they do not work. They work for the moment in time that you are taking them, but a month later I would gain all my weight back and often additional weight, too. Lastly, I could take a medically supervised approach and form a lifetime-partnership with Dr. Soudah to help reset my brain and how I view food. This sounded like the best option and like the one that would have lasting effects.
So, I began my journey the very next day on September 22, 2007. Every day I eat 1350 calories of which 800 comes from four shakes and one bar that Dr. Soudah wants me to eat so he can know exactly what the majority of my daily nutritional value is equal too.
This is one of the shakes (my favorite flavor is chocolate but I have one strawberry I eat each day) and the my favorite flavor of the bars...Cinnamon Crunch!
Keep on the look out for updates along the rest of the way. Since September 22, 2007, I have lost 29 lbs. My initial goal was to lose between 25 and 30 pounds with Dr. Soudah. I am going to try and double it now! I am halfway there in pounds and my 12 week time period that I am doing this modified diet.
At the end of my 12 weeks, I'll go back to eating regular meals. Dr. Soudah mentioned that I should be eating around 2500 to 2800 calories by that time to help maintain my progress. December 14, 2007, will be the end of my 12 weeks. So pray for me that I do not destroy myself over Thanksgiving.
Remember...Weight = Disease
